Teaching Philosophy
Students who are learning in the digitalized world are presented with the unique challenge of deriving meaning from the infinite knowledge online, which is often scattered and unorganized, and of fluctuating quality. This challenge prompts teachers to take on a new role in education that emphasizes knowledge brokerage over knowledge delivery. The teacher’s new purpose is to guide and encourage students to become independent learners who are adept at interacting with the abundant knowledge surrounding them.
I believe that effective teaching and learning in the digitalized world is achieved through flipped classroom environments focused on experiential learning that reinforces active learning habits. Flipped classroom deviates from passive theoretical learning, which is easily accessible through the Internet, and shifts toward experiential learning scaffolded by in-class activities such as group work, roleplay, and mentorship. Through in-class activities, students learn how to receive, process, and communicate information effectively with their peers, reach higher levels of comprehension by applying theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios, and become independent learners.
